In the present scenario of Information Technology, Internet has become a popular mode of communication. It has permeated all spheres of life. Internet shares information with anybody. Anywhere in the world with a minimum amount of financial resources. Internet is the combination of millions of computers. Connected together either through phone lines. Ethernet ISDN or cable modems etc. so that they can share information The internet is really a big network.
Internet - Brief History
The Internet was first started as an experiment by the United States Department of defense in 1969. The United States military needed a way for its researchers to communicate and share programs with one another over their computers. The defense computer researchers developed the first long distance network of computers, which was called ARPANET (ADVANCE Research Project Agency Network.
Web Page
A web page or webpage is a document or information resource that is suitable for the World Wide Web and can be accessed through a web browser and displayed on a monitor or mobile device. This information is usually in HTML Format and may provide navigation to other webpages via hypertext links. Webpages are requested to served from web servers using Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
Website
A website is a collection of webpages and related content that is identified by a common domain name and published on at least one web server. All publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web.
For Example : www.google.com, www.vinaytips.com etc
Bookmark
A bookmark is a record of web page address. If you want to visit a page again and again or to visit again a browsing page or to find the page again. You can bookmark it most browsers also allow you to organize your bookmarks into a directory, similar to the file folder directories in windows.
Creating bookmarks :
1. Select the "Bookmarks" menu
2. Select "Add Bookmark" from this menu
Web Browsers
A web browser is a software application for accessing information on the World Wide Web. When a user requests a web page from a particular website. The web browser retrieves the necessary content from a web server and then displays the page on the screen.
For Example : Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozila Firefox, Opera Mini etc.
Browsing
The process of accessing various websites with the help of web browsers is called browsing.
WWW (World Wide Web)
WWW stands for World Wide Web. it is an information system where documents and other web resources are identified by URL, which may be interlinked by hypertext and are accessible over the internet.
Web Server
Web server is a computer where the web content is stored. Basically web server is used to host the websites but there exists other web servers also such as gaming, storage, FTP, email etc.
Proxy Server
Proxy server is an intermediary server between client and the internet. Proxy servers offers the following basic functionalities.
Firewall and network data filtering
Network Connection Sharing
Data Catching
URL (Uniform Resource Locator)
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It is used to specify address on the World Wide Web. A URL normally locate an existing resource on the internet.
Addresses of websites are called URL.
Hyperlink
A hyperlink is used to open another webpage or resources such as an image or document on the same website. Hyperlink is also known as link.
ISP (Internet Service Provider)
ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. ISP is a company that provides access to the internet, hosts data or does both.
Protocol
A protocol is a set of rules used to retrieve a specific document. The "HTTP" in our URL refers to Hyper text Transfer Protocol. The "HTTP" is followed by a colon and two forward slashes, then "www" which refers to the World Wide Web.
Domain NameThe domain name consists of two parts. In our example "vinaytips.com" is the domain name. where "vinaytips" is the host and ".com" is the top level domain. This suffix indicates the type of organization to which the host belongs.

Website Design
Website design is the process of building the look and branding the website. It should be viewed as website body look, which means the exterior features of the website. The features include Graphics, Logos and so other visual effects like Flash etc.
Website Development
Website development is the data processing or programming your website. It helps to build the website to search automatically. Website development requires use of scripting languages both at the server end as well as client end.
Website Publishing
Website publishing is the process of uploading content on the internet. It includes uploading files, updating web pages, posting blogs etc.
Website Hosting
Website hosting is a service of providing online space for storage of web pages. These web pages are made available via World wide web. The companies which offer website hosting are known as web hosts.
